Fieldbus Instruments Support a Larger Vision
OK, let’s say you are in charge of a major capital project and you’ve wisely selected a state-of-the-art digital automation system, both Foundation fieldbus and Device-Net for your field buses, and plan to fully take advantage of the benefits from smart instrumentation. Implementation of your project should be easy, n’ est pas? Well consider that over the next 12-18 months of your project schedule there will be software revisions to almost all of your automation components, there may be only a limited choice of instruments for some of your sensing applications, and you personally haven’t worked with any of this technology yet. Doesn’t sound so easy now, does it? Those are some of the issues faced by the team of engineers working on Orange County Water District as they set out to create a new advanced water treatment facility for the lower Santa Ana River basin. Their insights, lessons learned, and cost/benefit analysis can be found in InTech magazine on-line article "Fieldbus Instruments support a larger vision".
