Unified Automation with Digital Plant Architecture Improves Gas Plant and Gathering System Operation
If you operate a gas production and separation field, it is probable that you have a DCS operating the separation unit, RTU for remote startup/shut down and a SCADA system to monitor diverse and spread-out data.
This is the position that the engineers at the Loma la Lata gas field in western Argentina found themselves in when they made the decision to standardize on a single, digital plant architecture using Foundation fieldbus. They saw improved quality control, safety and environmental stewardship as well as reduced maintenance as a result of this switch. Their problems, decisions and results were documented in Hydrocarbon Processing in March 2005. (519KB PDF)
